The transfer of printed literature to electronic form has been an indisputable trend in recent years. Some book titles are even published electronically only. E-books are becoming another important source of information; in the future, none of us can avoid working with them.
In addition to immediate availability and online reading, e-books offer several other benefits, such as:
- full-text search and filter results
- possibility of creating excerpts and marking text
- ability to copy part of the text and quickly paste it into another document, etc.
Most e-books are subject to copyright law, they are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) and should not be freely copied.
If the publisher allows it, the entire e-book can be downloaded for a limited time (in the form of a loan) using a particular program. Most often, this is the Adobe Digital Editions program. Its installation on computers owned by the university can only be arranged by a person with administrator rights, usually an IT technician. In case of problems installing the program on personal devices, please contact the IT Helpdesk.
E-books in the CZU Library collection can be searched::
- in the CZU Library catalogue
- in the multi-search engine Ebsco Discovery Service (EDS)
- on the individual e-book publisher platforms
Due to many platforms on which e-books are available and different ways of acquisition (permanent purchase vs. e-books available in collections that may change over time), it is unfortunately not yet possible to search e-books from one user interface. For a better overview, please see below the comparison of e-book search options:
