Registration
For registration, it is necessary to have a student or employee card with a chip (ISIC / ALIVE / ITIC / ID card) or eCard of a student/employee of ČZU. This card is then used to identify yourself when using library services (especially for absentee borrowing of library items).
Registration is free of charge for students and employees of ČZU.
Students of lifelong learning and the University of the Third Age at ČZU interested in using the library services can register as external readers. After registering with the library, you can borrow all the library collections for absentee lending, use the interlibrary loan service to borrow books unavailable in our library or arrange a consultation or research services. It is not possible to use the University's Electronic Information Resources.
When using the services (especially for absentee borrowing of library items), you have to use your ČZU Library card.
To register for the library, you need a photo ID (ID card, passport, driver's license) and proof of study.
The fee for issuing a ČZU Library card is 150 CZK.
The public (i.e., anyone who does not study or work at ČZU) interested in using the library services can register as an external reader. After registering with the library, you can borrow all the library's holdings for absentee borrowing at home, use the interlibrary loan service to borrow books unavailable in our library or arrange a consultation or research services. It is not possible to use the University's Electronic Information Resources.
When using the services (especially for absentee borrowing of library items), you have to use your ČZU Library card.
To register for the library, you need a photo ID (ID card, passport, driver's license), 150 CZK to issue the ČZU Library card, and 100 CZK for the annual fee.
Lending
We provide various types of library items for loan. A library item is the collective name for everything that can be borrowed from the library. Specifically, this includes books, scripts, journals, university qualifying papers, CD-ROMs, board games, calculators, headphones, chargers and picnic blankets.
Each library item has set rules about how it can be borrowed (whether you can only study it in the library or take it home); see the next question for more information.
To find out what we currently offer in the library, see our catalogue (a guide to searching the catalogue) or the University's EDS search engine (a guide to searching EDS).
Absentee borrowing | Library items that can be borrowed outside the library. Most are available at the Lending Desk, but some library items are also available for absentee borrowing in the Large Study Room. Absentee loans are divided into:
|
On-site borrowing | Library items can only be borrowed in the library space, the study room where the collection is located. Specialized publications and scripts are marked as present in the catalogue and usually have a second signature** (generally beginning with the letter R). Journals are also available for on-site borrowing in the Large Study Room and Reading Room. |
For today | Borrowing library units For today you can borrow absentee, but only for one day. These library items must be returned to the designated staff before library hours end. Items such as board games, blankets, headphones, calculators and chargers are checked out under this arrangement. |
Special On-site borrowing | These library items can only be borrowed on-site under special conditions that apply to these library items. These include, for example, technical standards or university qualifying papers. |
*Call number = alphanumeric designation of the publication, listed in the library catalogue aleph.czu.cz
**Second call number = alphanumeric designation of the publication, listed in the library catalogue as "Call no.2". It indicates the location of the publication on the shelf in the Large Study Room.
You can make a reservation for the library's absentee borrowing units so that they will be waiting for you the next time you visit the library or to be placed on the waiting list for the most requested titles.
Instructions for making a reservation can be found here.
Registration is non-transferable, i.e. someone else cannot use your library card.
Do you want to borrow a book or script at home and can't get to the library during the Borrowing Desk's hours of operation?
You can make a reservation with a pick-up location at the Knihobox, located outside the main entrance of the library building, for library items intended for absentee borrowing that another reader does not currently check out. Here, you can then pick up fulfilled reservations at any time after confirming them by email.
You can find more information about reservations (not only) for the Knihobox here.
Return of books
Books can be returned in person at the Lending Desk during operating hours or to the return box outside the entrance to the ČZU Library. We collect the return box every working day.
Have you ever wanted to return a book, but the library was closed? Well, that won't happen to you again.
There is a return box outside the entrance to the building so that you can return borrowed books and scripts at any time. Borrowed items returned to the return box are usually loaded into the library system by the next business day. Please be sure to return them on time.
If you have borrowed a bigger book, such as Genetics, which is 871 pages long, please return it directly to the library so that it is not damaged in the return box. All oversized books have an informative sticker; see the illustration photo.
Yes, he can. You do not need a library card to return borrowed items so that anyone can return them for you.
If you have a late fee on returned library items, you will pay it on your next visit or by online account transfer (see information below).
Yes. If you or someone you know does not have a way to get to the ČZU, you can also return borrowed items by mail to the following address:
Česká zemědělská univerzita v Praze
Knihovna – Výpůjční pult
Kamýcká 129
Praha – Suchdol
165 00
However, we recommend you write to vypujcnisluzby@lib.czu.cz about sending borrowed items for return and check whether the library units have been delivered and returned.
In this case, please consider the possible delay in returning the library items due to potential late fees. Loans are only considered returned once the library units are in the hands of a librarian and processed in the library system.
Late fees and charges
There is no charge for borrowing library items. However, if you do not return the loan on time, you deprive other readers of the opportunity to borrow the publication. Therefore, we have a system of penalties in place to encourage users to return items on time and not hinder the circulation of library items in the library.
In addition to late return fees, there are penalty fees for the destruction or loss of a borrowed library item.
Overview of fees
Late returned loan | 3 CZK/day for each borrowed library unit |
Late returned loan On-site | 50 CZK/day for each borrowed library unit |
Unclaimed reservation | One-off 10 CZK for each unclaimed reservation |
Penalties for the loss or damage of a library item are dealt with individually according to the degree of damage, the purchase price of the library item and other criteria. Ideally, contact vypujcnisluzby@lib.czu.cz in advance or ask the librarians at the Borrowing Desk.
Payment can be made in cash at the Lending Desk during opening hours.
It is also possible to pay by bank transfer. In this case, please get in touch with vypujcnisluzby@lib.czu.cz for information on the total amount and the assignment of a specific symbol. Then, transfer the amount to 500022222/0800 with the variable symbol 921106301. For each such payment, you must indicate the specific symbol assigned! For more efficient processing, we recommend sending the information to the above email after payment.
